Picnic At Hanging Rock

50TH ANNIVERSARY! Peter Weir’s 1975 Australian classic will return to the big screen, followed by a panel discussion with the film's screenwriter Cliff Green; actress Helen Morse who starred in the film; author Dr. Brian McFarlane and academic/journalist Dr. Mark Nicholls. Hosted by Carol van Opstal. Visually mesmerising, with stunning Cinematography by BAFTA and Oscar winner Russell Boyd (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Gallipoli), a unique score, and iconic costume design, Picnic At Hanging Rock is moody, unsettling and enigmatic - a masterpiece of Australian cinema. A critical and box office success in Australia and Europe, the film was part of a renaissance of Australian Cinema. In the early 1900s, Miranda (Anne Lambert) attends a conservative girl’s boarding school. One Valentine's Day, the school's typically strict headmistress (Rachel Roberts) treats the girls to a picnic trip at an unusual but scenic volcanic formation called Hanging Rock. Despite rules against it, Miranda and several other girls venture off. It's not until the end of the day that the faculty realises the girls and one of the teachers (Vivean Gray) have disappeared mysteriously without a trace.
