Possibly the most unhinged and bizarre film from Tom Cruise's oeuvre since the actor became a major movie star, VANILLA SKY is a psychological thriller directed by Cameron Crowe and based on Alejandro Amenábar's Spanish feature Abre Los Ojos. Featuring an incredible supporting cast, a super-sized Hollywood effects budget and possibly the most expensive series of needle-drops heard in a film, the film was met with critical and audience derision for daring to mess with the megastar's 'good guy' persona. David Aames Jr (Cruise) is a self-indulgent publishing magnate who lives a a privileged life in Manhattan. Living a playboy lifestyle, he falls head over heels for a stranger he meets at a party (Penelope Cruz). Greeted the following day by a jilted lover (Cameron Diaz), an impromptu car journey leads to a series of events which turns Aames' life upside-down.
